Fair Oaks & Astorga

Hemos disfrutado de la hospitalidad de nuestros amigos en Fair Oaks, gracias. Esta pequeña ciudad presenta ciertos paralelismos con la de Astorga en España. Ambas están en la ruta del oro. Situadas entre las colinas y el valle, contemplan en el horizonte las cumbres nevadas.
We enjoyed the hospitality of our friends in Fair Oaks, thanks. This small town has some parallels with that of Astorga in Spain. Both are along the gold route. Located between the hills and the valley, they look out onto snowy peaks.

En la encrucijada donde se concentra la población de Fair Oaks. con un diseño empedrado que parece maragato, está representado el símbolo de la ciudad: el roble. El nombre de la ciudad puede significar Robles Hermosos o Rubios.
At the crossroads, the center of Fair Oaks' population, with a stone design marker that looks like Spanish maragato design and the symbol of the city is the oak. The city name can mean Beautiful or Blonde Oaks.

La población original de la zona eran en un caso los maidu y en el otro los ástures, pero con la fiebre del oro llegaron otros pobladores. Luego se establecieron colonos que explotaron primero la madera y después la agricultura y la ganadería.
The original population of the area was in one case the Maidu and in the other the Astures, but, with the discovery of gold, others came to populate both areas. Then the settlements came to depend on the forests and then agriculture and the raising of livestock.

Los actuales maidus también tienen su propia recreación histórica.
Nowdays, modern Maidus also make it during historical reenactments/living history.

Hoy ambas son ciudades pequeñas con una vida tranquila, enriquecida con la vecindad de numerosos artistas que propician también variedas actividades culturales.
Today both are small towns, whose neighborhoods are enriched by numerous artists who also contribute to diverse cultural activities.

Una peculiaridad de Fair Oaks es la abundancia de gallos deambulando libres por sus calles. Son un signo de identidad y orgullo colectivo.

One peculiarity of Fair Oaks is the abundance of roosters that wander about free in the streets of the town center. They are a symbol of cultural identity and collective pride.
