Autor y personaje pertenecen a familias afganas acomodadas y socialmente reconocidas. Las madres de ambos eran profesoras. Ambos conocieron el Afganistán previo al derrocamiento del Sha en 1973 por un golpe de estado y la instauración de una república. Los dos sufrieron la invasión rusa de 1978 a resultas de la cual se exiliaron con su familia en los Estados Unidos de América. Finalmente ambos viven en California.
The author and character both belonged to wealthy and socially prominent Afghan families. The mothers of both were teachers. Both Afghanis knew Afghanistan prior to the overthrow of the Shah in 1973 by a coup and the establishment of the republic. Both suffered the Russian invasion of 1978 as a result of which they went into exile with their families in the United States of America. And finally, both live in California.

Cometas en el Cielo, o The Kite Runner, no es, sin embargo, una autobiografía pero sí es una novela escrita en forma autobiográfica, en la cual Amir cuenta en primera persona su vida en Afganistán y su amistad con Hassan.
Kite Runner or Cometas en el Cielo is not, however, an autobiography but it is a novel written in autobiographical form, in which Amir tells of his life in Afghanistan and his friendship with Hassan in first person form.

Esta apasionante lectura me dio a conocer Afganistán más allá de frías cifras y datos objetivos. Me pareció conocer a las personas que en ella nacieron, vivieron, sufrieron y que aún aman su país.
Desde la primera página, pero cada vez más a medida que avanzas en la lectura, sientes tan cercanos a los protagonistas que varias veces los ojos se llenan de sentimientos y emociones licuados.

This thrilling story introduced me to an Afghanistan beyond the cold numbers and facts. It seemed I knew the people who were born, lived, and suffered there and who loved their country.
From the first page, but more and more as you go on reading, you feel so close to the characters that your eyes repeatedly fill and overflow with emotions.

Aún tiempo después de terminar el libro, siguen resonando en mi conciencia algunos temas. Uno de ellos es el del poder redentor del amor, del amor de la víctima.

Even after finishing the book, my conscience continue to replay some of the resonating themes. One is the redemptive power of love, the love of a victim.

The Khaled Hosseini Foundation, nonprofit, provides humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan. The Foundation supports projects which provide shelter to refugee families and economic and education opportunities and healthcare for women and children. In addition, the Foundation awards scholarships to women pursuing higher education in Afghanistan.

La Fundación apoya proyectos en favor de familias de refugiados y apoya proyectos económicos, de educación y de atención sanitaria para las mujeres y los niños.
