One of the things that I love the most about America is its nature. Human pressure against nature has been exercised for less time than in old Europe and open spaces are very large in America. So nature is everywhere and is present in every corner.
The largest birds of prey are eagles. There are species of easgles in every part of the world, except in the Antartic. All of them are big and powerful, from their beaks to their claws. Their strength that makes them capable of catching and carrying off prey, much heavier then they are, while still in flight is surprising.
The eagle is one of the most utilized figures throughout history as a national symbol for signifying power, majesty, beauty and victory.
The bald eagle is the symbol of the United States. We can see it on coins, shields and national agencies.

Parque de la Naturaleza de Cabárceno, Cantabria, 28/06/2013 |
I saw one in Spain, in the Cabárceno Nature Park , Cantabria, along with other birds of prey from around the world. I could watch it fly and hunt in front of me and finally photograph myself with it.
During trips to California, I have seen in the wild, photographed and shared on my blog the following: sea lions, elk, mule deer, hummingbirds, wild turkeys, red-tailed hawks, pelicans, American bison, gray whales... I will publish more about other creatures in the future . But, I have not yet seen the bald eagle there yet. Will I be lucky this next time?
Beautiful!
