Homenaje al Número Pi

El 3-14, es decir: el 14 de marzo según se escriben las fechas en inglés, se celebra en USA el día de p. El Congreso de los Estados Unidos lo declaró Día Nacional de Pi en el año 2009.
3-14, or rather, the 14th of March, according to the way dates are written in English, is celebrated in the USA as the day of p. The United States Congress declared the date the National Day of Pi in the year 2009.

Today isn't March 14th or anything of the sort, but since the number Pi is irrational, I don't have to have reasons for giving a tribute to it here in this blog at this moment.

El Inca Garcilaso de la Vega nació en Cuzco (Perú) el 12 de abril de 1539, escritor e historiador considerado “el primer mestizo biológico y espiritual de América”, de él se dice también que es el príncipe de los escritores del Nuevo Mundo. El Inca Garcilaso de la Vega era sobrino-nieto, por parte de la familia de su padre, del famoso poeta renacentista del Siglo de Oro español del mismo nombre. Murió en Córdoba, España, el 23 de abril de 1616.

Si no lo veo no lo creo

Si no viere en sus manos la señal de los clavos,

Tomás es un hombre racional, necesita saber por sí mismo, poder experimentar las cosas, razonarlas y comprenderlas. Me cae muy bien este Tomás. Yo me identifico con él.

Si somos imagen y semejanza de Dios, y somos seres racionales, es bueno que usemos la razón para alcanzar la verdad. También para aceptar la Verdad, con mayúscula.
If we are the image and likeness of God, and we are rational beings, it's good that we use reason to reach truth. Also to accept the Truth, with a capital letter.

"Estad prontos para dar razón de vuestra esperanza". "Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope." (1 Pe 3, 15)

Hay corrientes de pensamiento, lo sabemos, que plantean la incompatibilidad entre fe y razón. Desde mi experiencia esas posturas no son ni creyentes ni son razonables. Estoy convencido de que tener fe es de lo más razonable.
There are streams of thought, we know, that maintain incompatibility between faith and reason.  From my experience these stances are not believable nor reasonable. I am convinced that having faith is the most reasonable of choices.

La vida por delante - Life ahead

Ayer disfrutamos Mary y yo viendo en casa la película Intocable. No pude menos de compararla enseguida con otras películas que también abordan otros casos reales de personas tetrapléjicas tras sufrir un accidente.
Yesterday at home, Mary and I enjoyed watching the movie, Intocable. I could not avoid comparing it at the moment with many other movies, true stories about people who after suffering accidents became quadriplegics.
